The Mayan Armor is the best outfit in Black Flag Resynced — it deflects bullets, making Edward nearly immune to gunfire. To unlock it, you must find all 16 Mayan Stelae scattered across the Caribbean, then solve the Mayan puzzle at Tulum. This guide covers everything you need to know.
What the Mayan Armor Does
Unlike most outfits which are purely cosmetic, the Mayan Armor has a unique gameplay effect: it deflects enemy bullets. This is a game-changer in combat, especially against large groups of guards with firearms. In the original 2013 game, this was the reward for collecting all stelae — and Resynced keeps this tradition.
How to Find Mayan Stelae
Stelae are found on remote islands and in hidden jungle clearings. Unlike chests and fragments, they don't always appear on your map after syncing viewpoints — you need to explore thoroughly.
Key locations to check (16 total):
- Great Inagua — 1 stela near the mansion
- Tulum — 2 stelae in the jungle ruins
- Cape Bonavista — 1 stela
- Misteriosa — 1 stela (remote island, southwest)
- Long Bay — 1 stela
- Pinos Isle — 1 stela
- Isla Providencia — 1 stela
- Remaining stelae are scattered across smaller islands — explore every "?" icon on your map
The Tulum Puzzle
After collecting all 16 stelae, travel to Tulum, Conttoyor. A stone door in the Mayan temple will now be unlockable. Inside, you must solve a puzzle involving rotating rings of Mayan symbols. Match the symbols shown on each stela to the corresponding ring. The puzzle resets if you make a mistake, but there's no penalty — just try again.
Pro Tips
- Use Eagle Vision near ruins. Stelae glow gold in Eagle Vision, making them easier to spot in dense jungle.
- Syncing viewpoints helps — some stelae do appear as map markers after syncing.
- Small islands are key. Many stelae are on tiny, unnamed islands. Don't ignore any "?" on your map.
- The Mayan Armor is worth the effort. Bullet deflection transforms combat — you can focus on melee without constantly dodging gunfire.
- Start early. Collect stelae as you explore during the main story. Backtracking to find all 16 after finishing the game is tedious.
